Tips to deal with an Addict Partner

#1 Be Calm

The first thing to remember, is to be as calm as possible. We may be tempted to lash out, yell or even hit out at our partners if they are being unreasonable, due to their substance abuse. But, such provoking actions will only cause more problems. Those under the influence of drugs will have their fight or flight reflexes at a strung high. So, if you act in a way that triggers their fight reflex, the fight may not work in you favor. Be as calm as possible and first, try to calm them down. After which, seize an open opportunity and get help from neighbors or family that live close-by.

#2 Locate Safe Spaces At Home

Make a mental note of all the places that you can hide from your partner, should they become aggressive after a dose of drugs. What’s most important is that you choose places that are higher up or lower down, both of which would involve a flight of stairs. When someone is under the influence, it can be difficult for them to navigate up or down stairs, so you would be able to buy some time to find an obscure spot to hide in until it all dies down.

#3 Get Help From Others
