The Psychology Behind Terrorism At Places Of Worship
The world has been shaken with multiple attacks of places of worship, all fueled by terrorist sentiments. From attacks in New Zealand, Sri Lanka to that in California, one that is much closer to home. But, why have these hate-filled human beings targeting places that are the central of peace, serenity and calm?
There are actually simple reasons hiding in plain sight. To be able to understand the mental mechanics behind the choice of target, we must first put ourselves in their shoes. Look at the world from their eyes, their perception and narrow-minded beliefs. We’d tried and have finally hypothesized that these are the main reasons why terrorists have been earmarking houses of worship for their heinous agendas.

How’s Life For People That Lives In A Terrorism Country
#1 Zero Defenses
It’s common knowledge that people who set out of their houses with the purpose of visiting the house of God generally do not come equipped to the nines with firearms and weaponry. And in cases where someone does attack them, they have absolutely no way of putting up a fight. Attacking a place of worship requires minimal effort and weapons from the terrorist and with no way to defend themselves, people are easy kills in their eyes.
#2 Large Crowds
The mathematics behind this is quite simple and logical. A larger, more public place means that there would be a larger crowd for them to take out. It’s just like killing as many birds as possible with a single stone. People who steadfastly hold on to terroristic beliefs have little or no value for human life and large death tolls are something they pride themselves in. This is why terrorists love targeting such places, they do so love a bigger and better bloodshed.
#3 Easy Come, Easy Go
Another factor is that places of worship are rarely secured or have restrictions and checks before entry. Anyone can easily get in, and just as easily, go out. Someone could sneak in a revolver or a knife, cleverly concealed between clothes and not a soul would be privy to it. Almost anyone can commit a crime within these public premises and sneak away, unnoticed.
#4 Hatred Towards A Specific Race/Religion
Ever so often, such saddening events occur as a result of hatred instilled towards a particular race or religion. This strong sense of dislike for a particular group of people can stem from different reasons, a known religious rivalry from back in the day right up to simple misinformation and stereotypes concocted about a specific set of people within the community. When it spirals out of control, the hate manifests itself in such a disastrous outcome.

Now that you have got a glimpse into the mind of these terror mongers, you would be able to understand how they have been selecting their targets and why these places are essentially an easy game for them. They are unable to see beyond their narrow sight of things. And, it’s about time that all places of worship be given the due security, lest lives be lost again due to some senseless plan of violence.
Be wary when you’re out paying the due respect to your beliefs at a place or worship, or even at any other public place, for that matter. Keep an eye out for people with suspicious packages or even iffy behaviour or movement. Watch out for them within friends and acquaintances too. You never know what they do behind closed doors. If you suspect that someone you know has been plotting an act of terrorism, a quick people search will give you details direct from publicly available criminal records so that you can alert the authorities.
